My Name is Paul, and I am a Southampton fan from Southampton now living in London. I worked as an actor for many years and until recently worked at the Imperial War Museum here in London. I recently had a total left leg amputation after an operation on my knee did not go quite according to plan, so I am now unable to work and rely on my wheels to get about. Every cloud has a silver lining they say and my silver lining is I can park nearly anywhere I like and get two tickets to the football for the price of one, as well as good views and wheelchair side service from the stewards. In fact, wherever I go I get the service and help some people pay an arm and a leg for and it only cost me a leg. I started this research into what lies behind the badges of our football clubs over 20 years ago after explaining my team’s badge to a friend and realising how interesting it was, covering many subjects such as history, geography, religion and heraldry to name but a few. Back then there was very little information outside the football club’s own records available to us fans. Today there are a number of people who have followed my lead and put up sites on the subject, but having encountered some of the difficulties that I encountered they have not persevered, so I have found they only have limited and often wrong information. I started by writing to all the clubs and received a great response from them and was surprised to learn that many had no idea what their badges represented, so I was able to help them with my research. Others sent me bundles of information, and one or two just ignored me. I have written this site in the hope that you find it interesting enough to read about all of the club badges, as well as your own. I have included large doses of my humour, thoughts and opinions, but all the information is true and can be reliably backed up. By the time you have read all of the club badges, it is my hope that you will have been entertained whilst learning all about the history of all the towns and cities in the country that have or have had a football club in the football league in the last 20 years. This includes club nicknames, history, grounds, heraldry, Latin mottos, English mottos, how the towns and cities got their names, how the clubs came about and every interesting fact connected to every detail on the badges past and present. I hope you enjoy the site and I have done my best to keep it updated but please do let me know if your club is planning a badge change, renaming the ground or moving to another location or even another city. You can get in touch with any questions or information you think should be included and of course you will be credited for that information. If there is something you don’t like, have any negative critique then you may not get in contact with me but please do complain to your mum. There are no swear words or disgusting comments on this site, yet hopefully I still manage to keep my terrace humour. Regarding that humour, please do not be offended by any joke I may make at the expense of your club, I treat all clubs the same. If however, you feel I have gone too far just drop me a line and we can change things. My aim is not to offend but to put a smile on the face. I also have a team with experience in badge and company logo design should you need help in that area. Initial correspondence and design creation is free and charges only apply if you are happy to go with our creations. To get in touch with any design requests or queries, information or questions regarding this site, updates, kind words and adulation, then please do get in touch.

Re: Newport County.
Not wishing to criticise unnecessarily but too mnay “Facts” are assumed..wrongly!
Why not research that which you dont know or understand rather than guess? K

Hi Kate, If you saw the boxes of research I have in my shed you would be able to find where my facts come from. In the very first instance, I wrote to every club, and spoke to many supporters on my travels. In football there are myths and legends in the creation and evolution of what has become football today. Thanks for your response, but it would be more helpful if you gave me a list of the too many facts assumed wrongly, and I shall address them. thanks, Paul.

Recently over the past year or so, I have tasked myself with redesigning, or improving, the badge of every club ever to have plied its trade in the Football League… and how immensely helpful this page has been! Thanks mate, I’ll show you some of the designs I’ve come up with if you’d like to see.
